Our Work

Our programmatic areas are backed by our extensive, ongoing scientific research. Through these science-based programs, we are transforming disregard, confusion, and fear surrounding Louisiana’s coastal crisis into understanding, advocacy, and community for environmental sustainability.

Coastal

Our expert team of coastal scientists researches and undertakes effective measures to restore and enhance the region’s coastal protections. We've created and coined the Multiple Lines of Defense Strategy (MLODS), a strategy for coastal restoration and storm protection that is now used frequently by Federal and State agencies. This is a plan of how to merge coastal habitat restoration and engineered flood protection. When both are achieved, the ecology and economy of the region can continue and together will protect and sustain Louisiana’s Coast for future generations.

Community

We work with partners and community members to ensure that the Louisiana’s beautiful Pontchartrain Basin is preserved and prospering, for generations to come.

Education

We draw on our scientific evidence and findings to develop innovative environmental curriculum. Our programs educate students from grade school, through college, as well as teachers.

Water Quality

Our award-winning Water Quality program has produced one of the largest data sources available on the quality of the Pontchartrain Basin’s waterways. Most importantly, our research led to the cleanup of one of the largest wetlands along the gulf coast.

We seek research based solutions for preserving and restoring the Lake Pontchartrain Basin. Our strengths lie in our depth of scientific knowledge and understanding of the challenges affecting the basin region, as well as our proven-track record in finding practical solutions. Our strategy relies on these three pillars:

Research

Research

Scientific research and action is PC’s comparative advantage. We harness this expertise to improve water quality in the Basin and to promote the coastal integrity upon which the region depends.
Education

Education

PC draws on its scientific evidence and findings to develop innovative environmental curriculum to educate students from grade school through college as well as teachers.
Advocacy

Advocacy

Leveraging our depth of scientific knowledge we encourage officials and businesses to support more effective legislation and invest in sustainable practices. We provide data and analysis, as well as opportunities for environmental engagement through volunteering, tours, and events.
